Planning models and Business Intelligence (BI) tools are the twin heart of the performance management framework, but they have very different roles to play, even in an all-in-one software solution. The key difference is that planning models create new information (plans, budgets, forecasts), whereas BI tools manipulate and report information that is created elsewhere.
